What is an IP-PBX?

An IP PBX is an IP enabled telephone switching system which allows the user to switch from local analogue lines to VoIP services. IP PBXs differ from conventional PBXs, with the ability to voice and data across one line. So with an IP-PBX system, users can benefit from both traditional and VoIP voice calling, as well as internet access all on one line.

Can VoIP services be used over mobile broadband?

In some cases it is possible, though some networks do block VoIP access. For those that do allow VoIP it should be noted that where mobile broadband signal is low, you may experience significant latency when talking.

What is a firewall?

A firewall is a mode of network and internet protection that regulates data traffic running to and from your network. A firewall will recognise and protect your office IT infrastructure from unwanted, possibly harmful internet applications and viruses. What if I don't have an internet connection, can I still perform data backups?

What bandwidth will I need for data backups?

Obviously, as with any broadband related application, the larger your bandwidth, the better performance you will receive. Though it does not necessarily matter what size bandwidth you have, within reason. All it will mean if you have a smaller bandwidth, is that it will take longer for your files to be backed-up.

What is the maximum amount of data I can backup?

There is no real limit to how much data you can backup, but you should consider your system resources and how often your data is likely to change, when thinking about backing up.

Does 5G's hosted email service provide anti-virus and spam filtering?

Both 5G's advanced mailbox and hosted exchange packages offer free anti-virus and spam protection, although our standard basic mailbox does not.

What is Hosted Exchange?

What is a Domain Name?

Your domain name is simply the website address that is used to identify your website.

If I have a fast internet connection i.e. DSL, cable, can I host my own online services?

Technically, it may be possible to host your own services on a very fast connection but it is not recommended. Most internet service providers will not allow you to have hosting services on your internet connection, also in outsourcing your hosted services, you avoid the headaches and lack of support that comes with using your own servers. Plus, your internet performance will suffer significantly if you do choose to host your own online services.

What is Web Hosting?

Web hosting is where we can supply you with a given amount of space and bandwidth so that you can publish your online services through us, saving yourself money and server space.

How fast does my internet connection need to be to fully benefit from VoIP calling?

As with all online services; the faster your connection, the better. Although the average DSL or cable connection is usually enough to benefit from decent quality VoIP calls.

Do I need a computer to make VoIP calls?

No, surprisingly it is not necessary to have a computer to take advantage of our VoIP services. We will provide you with an adaptor that will connect your phone to a high-speed internet connection. It is, however, necessary to have a computer to take full advantage of the many features that VoIP systems have to offer.

Using VoIP, can I call any phone or just other VoIP phones?

Absolutely, you can call any phone using our VoIP services. Unlike some other providers, we don't restrict the types of phone that you call, so if you need to contact someone, whoever they are, our VoIP services allow you to do just that.

Do VPNs offer virus protection?

No. VPNs are able to provide security by encrypting and decrypting passing data through your VPN connection; they do not come with virus protection.

What does VPN stand for?
